Since its inception, UCLEF has worked, in both the United States and China, with prestigious universities, governmental departments and industrial associations to develop a series of exchange and training programs for lawyers, law students and business entities.
In the past five years, more than 400 participants from Chinese universities, the legal and business communities, trade associations and government departments have attended various events/projects organized by the UCLEF. UCLEF has accumulated a wealth of experience in project management and visas counseling. As an independent, non-profit professional organization, UCLEF adheres to the principles of high-level and professional development, and has become a leading platform for promoting Sino-U.S. legal exchange and cooperation.

The Outstanding Chinese Law Students’ Visiting Program strives to provide the opportunity for exceptional Chinese law students to gain first-hand experience at American law schools. The goal is for these students to improve their understanding of the American legal culture and legal system, and enhance their international perspective, through visits to prestigious law schools on the east coast and the development of lines of communication with their faculty and students. Activities of the Chinese law students include: visiting admission offices, observing classes, attending lectures, and meeting and socializing with U.S. law professors and law students. The Chinese law students also have the opportunity to visit American law firms and courthouses. This program was initiated in 2010 and has already served students from Peking University (who are funded with the Yang Zixuan-Chen Xiaowei Scholarship), Tsinghua University, Wuhan University, Fudan University and other universities in China. |
Since 2011, UCLEF has partnered with Boston University School of Law (BUSL) to provide a summer immersion program for Chinese law students. This program is comprised of three parts: (1) an academic program with courses on U.S. Law taught at BUSL, (2) an informational program with visits to U.S. courthouses and law firms, and (3) a travel component to tour organizations in New York, Philadelphia and Washington D.C. To date, students have attended this program from many universities including: China University of Political Science and Law, Xiamen University, Wuhan University, University of International Business and Economics, and Shenzhen University. UCLEF has also established a cooperative relationship with China University of Political Science and Law, China Foreign Affairs University and University of International Business and Economics. |
UCLEF provides a full range of training programs for Chinese lawyers and corporate counsels, in cooperation with U.S. law schools and law firms. Topics include, but are not limited to, cross-border investment and M&A, and intellectual property and training programs for Chinese corporate counsels. In addition to professional learning, the participants are provided with opportunities to visit prestigious law firms and relevant businesses and industry associations in the U.S. For example, UCLEF worked with Fordham Law School in 2009 and held the first training program in New York City for Chinese lawyers, where the participants visited several prominent international law firms, including Sidley Austin and DLA Piper. |
UCLEF understands that business, industrial, educational, and other groups may have special needs. We therefore work one on one with organizations to create programs that are tailored to their specific needs. China Resources Financial Intermediation Workshop is one of the UCLEF customized programs. In October of 2012, in cooperation with PBS School of Finance, Tsinghua University and New York University Stern School of Business, UCLEF hosted this workshop for more than 40 mid-level managers from China Resources. The participants also visited several renowned financial institutions, including Morgan Stanley, Citi Group and the New York Stock Exchange |
UCLEF invites a wide range of Chinese and American experts and professors to enrich the research team by conducting specific examinations of current issues related to the socio-economic development of China and the U.S. Such specialized research focuses on subjects that have great importance to the socio-economic development of China, especially those related to the relevant laws and regulations of China and the U.S. The expectation is that such research will be helpful to the social and economic development in China. In an effort to help Chinese enterprises expand overseas, UCLEF would like to cooperate with Chinese industry associations and enterprises to conduct research about relevant fields of laws and regulations. |
UCLEF partnered with the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the United States Council for International Business (USCIB) to host a Business and Legal Forum on U.S.-China Trade and Investment in 2012. The aim of this Forum is to provide an opportunity for government officials, as well as representatives from trade associations, business and legal communities, to explore current Sino-U.S. economic and trade issues, share policy and legal information on the promotion of investment and trade in China and the United States and business opportunities, and strengthen cooperation among enterprises, their legal advisors, leading industry associations such as CCPIT and USCIB, and local chambers of commerce. This Forum is held each year, alternating between China and the U.S. |
